It’s Skirt Season.. How to style em’

Oh how I love a skirt outfit- comfy, stylish and so versatile. Here are some looks that i’ve put together that are casual, classy and stylish.

General guidelines:

  • With flowy skirts, try using more slim fitting blouses/tops.
  • When colorful skirts are paired with solid simple tops, it lets the skirt and your other accessories stand out.
  • With printed fabrics- you want to try to go with a solid colored top- it is far easier to match printed fabrics wtih solids like black or white, rather than trying to pick one of the shades from your fabric- which you can do- however I find it difficult to get an exact match. As with the last image here.

Fashion is soo much fun!

Keep it classy ..

LBS- 3 Ways

A tailored, well fitting, black short pant, is a wardrobe must-have.

It is versatile and timeless.

It is a useful #travel piece. With different tops, and layering pieces, you can create multiple looks.

Why choose a tailored LBS?

A tailored pair can go from casual, to sporty, to glam, whereas, if we chose a casual one- you can only get one look from it- which is very casual. These we can wear on a city day tour- to a glam night out partying.

I have created just 3 looks from this pant, however there are dozens more can be created. Enjoy 🙂

My new favorite pant style.

Have you tried -high wasted pull up pants yet?

Since getting them, I’ve been wearing them instead of my usual go-to jeans. What a relief to finally have a great 2nd option.

They are very versatile. They are easy to wear, great fabric and very flattering.

They are good on all body types – but especially good for hip minimizing. If you are pear-shaped like I am.

Because it’s a loose pant

DO: pair it with more closely fitting tops.

Here I have paired it with one of my wardrobe essentials – my chambray shirt!

Pants: Express

Shirt: Espirit

Shoes: Banana Republic

Bag: Longchamp

Black sunglasses: RalphLauren

Clear sunglasses: Michael Kors

1 Skirt- 3 Looks

Hello Summer 🙂

Its skirt season! Although, where I live its pretty much always summer. However, all the stores get all the nice skirts during the “Summer” season.

For a minimalist wardrobe

Do: Pick 1 or 2 very verstaile colored skirts. For a minimalist wardrobe, try to pick one that can match with some of the tops you already own. So solids are a safe bet.

DO: Pick a skirt that isnt too heavily printed or pattered. Its easier to mix and match your accessories if you keep the skirt simple.

Do: By keeping your skirt simple- it will become more timeless. You can keep it around for years to come.

Do: Note, becasue you can get many looks from a great skirt, its a really good travel piece.

Do: Have fun with your skirts- keep your tops simple and spruce the outfit up with some “popping” accessories.

Do: Create several looks by changing your tops and accessories.

Mini Make-Up Haul

Hello Everyone,

Here are a few goodies, that I picked up on my recent trip to Florida.

From #Ulta Beauty:  #MAC fix+ Gold Lite

It’s a new item from MAC, a skin refresher & finishing mist. It has specks of a champagne colored substance, which is meant to give your skin a dewy, glowy look. Give it a good shake before using.

From #CVS: #Milani everyday eyes eyeshadow metallic collection.

I love using just one shade all over my eyelids, it adds the softest glitter to your lids without being overdone- so its great for daytime- I have sampled it here on my arm, without an eyeshadow base.

From Macy’s Estee Lauder Double Wear stay in place foundation in shade rich ginger.

The sales associate gave me a sample to try, it was enough for a few days, luckily she really knew her stuff, she got the correct shade for my skin tone right away. This shade is perfect for me.  The foundation has a velvety finish that looks creamy on my skin and not powdery and/or dy at all. It’s a light to medium coverage. *****

Mini Skin Care Haul

Hello everyone,

Just bought a few new tricks for the magic kit 🙂

Love them all – so thought i’d share- – I have been reading only great things about Estee Lauder recently so I decided to give it a try.

Luckily, I met the most helpful sales associate at the Estee Lauder makeup counter, I told her what I needed and she gave me lots of yummy samples of things I needed and things she thought I needed -after trying the things that were recommended for my skin type- (Mostly combination and sometimes very dry.) Here’s what i got:

I have only been using this for about a week now, what I like about it is how clean and fresh my face looks after, bordeline radiant :)- and also that you can leave it on as a mask So far so good!

As Per

Cushions as it cleanses. Non-foaming creme.

Works for all skintypes. Ideal for Dry skin.

  • Dry skin
  • Multi-benefits in one
  • Gentle daily cleansing
  • 2X/week moisture infusion

Pore-Minimizer Skin Refinisher

As per

Pores look smaller. Skin feels soft, smooth.

For all skintypes.

  • Reducing the look of pores
  • Uneven skin texture
  • Flakiness, roughness
  • Dullness, loss of radiance
  • Soft, silky feeling

I like how my skin feels with it, it isnt oily and really works well on the dry spots. like the sides of my nose and my chin. Under my makeup it has been good at minimizing the lines under my eyes and the pores on my cheeks. It’s only been a week- could be mind over matter- but I feel as if I already can see a difference in my skin.

Refining Scrub

Estee Lauder didnt have one- found one from #Clinique  its a 7-day scrub cream. I REALLY wanted a scrub that was gentle enough to use everyday- but would do all that srcubs are meant to do- exfoliate, polish and refine your skin.

I will use this everyday on evenings, once all of my make-up is off. Followed by a toner.

Finally ..

My last toner that just finished was from Clinique- As much I was trying the other things from Estee Lauder I thought i’d try the toner.

Travel Outfit

Hello everyone,

Travel outfits can be tricky-  firstly, with the heavy security protocols at the airport, and secondly because, while we want to be stylish and trendy, we also want to be comfy.

Here are a few things I keep in ming when putting together my travel outfits:

First and most importantly, I try to wear clothing that are #versatile and that I can re-use during my vacation- Pieces that I can mix and match with other peices to create other outfits.

I also keep in mind to not overlaod my suitcase, so I would wear the bulkier items rather than pack them- the bulkier items usually tend to be jeans and outerwear.

My outfit would depend on the length of the flight. I get cold quickly- so for flights over 2 hours long I am sure to wear socks and layers so that I am warm, for shorter flights, I wont worry too much about layering and I may even wear open toed shoes, but still never high heels (thats just me 🙂

For shoes- I almost always wear sneakers or sometimes a comfy espadrille- I like these that I got from #colehaan – not only for the comfort, but because of the ease of removal with the velcro closure.

*I never wear a shoe for the first time when travelling or even during a vacation.

I wear clothing that’s sturdy and easy to clean and care for. These white pants are from #thegap its the girlfriend jeans-

I also like wearing long pants so that when I sit anywhere, my legs are not exposed to all the public spaces we encounter during travel-

Lastly, I like travelling with a tote bag- something thats soft and has easy accessibiltiy, for all of my travel essentials

Thank you-

Whats your travel style?

Be you best self

Vanita.. xoxo

Fashion Basics- Understanding Color

Finding your personal style(1)

Hello everyone,

A basic understanding of color, is a  great building block to creating your “super fabulous” wardrobe.

  • How colors work together
  • How to choose colors to mix and match
  • Flattering ways to use them for your body type
  • MOST important- which colors suit your skintone.

The benefit to understanding color, is that it helps us use more of the clothing pieces that we already have. We become more creative and are able to see more versatility in our clothing.

>>>>> This results in us needing less things, and saving more $$$ 🙂

Here are some helpful guides for using colors-

Monochromatic Colors >>> Outfit

A monochromatic outfit, is one where, all of the pieces of clothing in your outfit, consists of shades of the same color. “Mono” = ONE & “Chromatic” = COLOR

Putting Together A Monochromatic Outfit:

1-Choose a color that you want to wear, a color that loves you back :)-  it complements your skintone and you feel comfortable and fabulous in it.

Some easy go to colors are:

  • White
  • Black
  • Grey

2-For interesting visual contrast- mix textures… Such as..

  • Suede & Cotton
  • Knits & Leather
  • Denim & Chiffon
  • Leather & Cotton
  • Suede & Silk
  • Wool & Sequins
  • Knits & Denim

*Tip- Petite Women- this is especially flattering and encouraged for your body type Because you are wearing the same color throughout, there are no breaks in fabric or color so it elongates your body.

Analogous Colors

These colors sit adjacent to each other on the color wheel, you can safely group 2 to 3 colors together-once they are next to each other, to create a harmonious analogous outfit-  *Which can also turn out slightly monochromatic.

Putting Together An Analogous Outfit

  • Choose a color on the color wheel- keeping in mind a color that loves you back.
  • Depending on your body type and shape you want to keep the darker of the shades on the part of your body that you would most want to minimize. So lets say you were picking red violet and red- and you are pear-shaped and wanted to minimize your hips then you would keep the red violet as your skirt/pant and the top in the brighter color > the red.
  • Now remembering that we can  choose 2-3 colors – for some visual interest & for a pop of even more color, you can do a violet heel or handbag or both.

Complementary Colors:

Complementary colors are those that sit opposite each other on the color wheel. Example- red & green.

Putting Together A “Complementary Color” Outfit

The Top: This needs to be well thought of and picked to suit your skin tone- as this is the piece that is closest to your skin- your face & arms.

The Bottom: This will be the opposite color on the color wheel- keep in mind the parts of your body that you wish to minimize etc. So if both colors suit you- wear the darker color clothing on the part you wish to minimize and vice versa.

Accessorize: Have fun mixing and matching- your jewelry-  nude shoes work great!

How to handle clothing with multiple colors:

This can be quite confusing-

For example lets say you had a plaid shirt or a multi colored floral skirt or polka dot pants  its safest to match these items up with their solid counterpart- So if it’s a floral skirt pick one of the colors from the print or simply match it with something white or black depending on the base color of the print- If its hard to tell what the dominant color is- take a step back and look at the piece a dominant color should present itself.

When in doubt match with denim- blue/black or black pants and always with nude shoes- the easiest go to.

Thank you- hope this helped

Be your best color cordinated self!
